About The Wondering
Helping CEOs understand what’s really happening so they can grow with confidence.
I’m Gus Byleveld. I founded The Wondering to help CEOs of growth-stage B2B technology companies understand why growth has become harder than it should be, and what to do about it.
I’ve spent more than 25 years leading commercial teams, building revenue organizations and helping technology companies navigate periods of growth and transformation. I’ve also sat in the CEO seat, where the number is only part of the story.
Behind it are people, customers, investment decisions, culture, trust and the constant pressure to decide what needs attention now.
One thing I’ve learned is that the problem a business first presents is not always the problem that needs solving.
That’s why I don’t arrive with a predefined playbook. I start by understanding the business, how customers buy, what the evidence is telling us, and where the system may be getting in the way.
Sometimes the answer is sales. Sometimes it isn’t.
I am a lifelong student, and my curiosity and inquisitiveness help leaders of growth-stage B2B companies get to the bottom of their revenue challenges.
Why call it The Wondering?
The name comes from a simple belief: better decisions begin with better questions.
Great operators don’t have all the answers. They know how to ask the questions that expose what’s really happening.
It’s also a deliberate play on wandering.
Building a successful business rarely follows a straight line. There are assumptions to challenge, paths worth exploring, wrong turns, difficult decisions and moments when the evidence tells you to change course.
That requires curiosity, humility and the willingness to listen before acting.

How I work
I listen.
I take the time to understand the business, the market, and what’s really happening.
I ask questions.
I challenge assumptions – including my own.
I look for evidence.
We decide what matters.
Together we identify the few changes most likely to improve performance.
Then we make it happen.
Insight only matters if something changes.
I work alongside you.
As a trusted partner focused on results that last.
If growth has become harder than it should be, you don’t need to know the answer before we talk.
That’s the point.
